Simply Science, Part I: Introduction
By Mackenzie Nelson & Allison Brown
In graduate school, the volume of scientific articles and ocean science and policy topics we read about is astounding. Many of us joke that our eyes have gotten worse since taking our first class because of all the reading we do on our computers. I personally have upped my prescription since starting in the fall of 2016 and nearly everyone in the class of 2018 who started without a prescription has now gotten one. But while we groan over all the reading we have to do, the fact of the matter is that we read about some pretty cool and exciting things going on in the world.
At Currents, you will see posts about topics we find interesting and relevant in ocean science and policy. For the month of May, we have decided to try something a little different. We will be running the series Simply Science. Each post will take an ocean science topic and explain it in words most people normally use. That’s it. These posts present the exciting things we learn in basic terms. Simply the science.
Below we have included comics of future pieces in Simply Science as previews of the topics to come. Enjoy!
