An analysis of women and gender equality considerations in National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans
SMEA Alum Barbara Clabots recently authored a report for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) titled, “Gender and biodiversity: Analysis of women and gender equality considerations in National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).” The report examines how women and gender equality considerations are included in National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), the principal mechanisms for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the national level. NBSAPs are key instruments for defining priorities and modalities for effective, efficient and equitable biodiversity management at the national level and across key sectors. As such, they provide important opportunities to recognize and integrate women’s empowerment and gender equality considerations. Included in the study are 254 NBSAPs from 174 countries over 23 years of implementation (1993 through May of 2016).
