Volunteer
Volunteers play a crucial role to support the mission and impact of SMEA as we train the next generation of marine and environmental policy makers.
SMEA alumni and supporters contribute actionable knowledge, teaching and engagements to address emergent environmental and social challenges affecting marine and coastal areas. We invite you to get involved!
Alumni Mentorship Program – Our volunteers empower students to launch their careers successfully. Sign up to become a mentor!
Capstone Projects – Partner with SMEA and co-create a capstone project. Every spring, submit your project proposals due in June for the upcoming academic year.
Guest Speakers – SMEA welcomes our alumni and supporters to deliver guest lectures and educate our students about aspects of marine and environmental affairs which often fall outside of the areas of expertise of our faculty and staff.
Host Site Visits – For our students, nothing compares to immersive learning experiences in local marine environments. Host a site visit to strengthen connection to coastal communities and underscore the importance of data collection and policy making.
Volunteering takes many forms. Becoming a SMEA volunteer can enrich your own work, sense of place and belonging, and provide invaluable opportunities to help train the next generation of marine and environmental policy makers. Volunteers at SMEA amplify the science, policy and social issues essential to sustain our marine and coastal areas.
You’re making a difference! We welcome the opportunity to explore together the many ways you can make an impact as a volunteer.
