If you are a prospective student and interested in visiting the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs we would be happy to schedule a day for you to meet with the Graduate Program Advisor, sit in on a class or two, have lunch with a few of our current students, and meet with faculty (as their schedules allow). If you are interested in scheduling a visit please complete, print as a PDF, then email this form to SMEA’s Graduate Program Advisor, Tiffany Dion (tlcdion@uw.edu) to arrange your visit.

General Directions to the University District and SMEA

By car:

From I-5, going north or south, take the NE 45th Street exit (#169). Head east on NE 45th Street.

To get to SMEA, turn right (south) on Brooklyn Ave NE. Go the end, we are in the last building on the right.

From Sea-Tac airport you can take the lightrail to Westlake Station (approx. $2.75). From that stop take the #71 or #73 buses Northbound (approx. $2.50) and exit at NE Campus Pkwy & 12th Ave. Go west a half block to Brooklyn Ave. NE and make a left. SMEA will be 3 blocks down on the right.

By bus:

You can get information on the best bus route by logging on to the King County Metro Transit Trip Planner.

SMEA Main Office:

3707 Brooklyn Ave NE – on the corner of Brooklyn Ave NE and NE Boat St. (Lake Union is across the street). Look for the concrete building with a stained glass ‘seascape’ on the front. Go straight through the lobby into SMEA; Our Graduate Program Advisor is located in room 107.

Parking:

Parking is always a problem in the University District. There are meters on NE Boat St. just south of our building; parking is $3.00/hr with a 2 hour maximum – bring lots of quarters or use a debit/credit card. Two hours may not be long enough if you are intending to attend a class. The link to visitor parking at the UW is here. The spaces for visitors usually fill up early. There are a couple of private lots in the general area, the closest is about a block west of SMEA on Boat Street.

Maps:

Map of the University of Washington campus can be found here.

Map of the Marine Studies Building and surrounding area (code-MAR) can be found here.
