Workshop: The Power of Public Comment

Faculty from the University of Washington School of Marine and Environmental Affairs will host an upcoming workshop focused on the role of public comment in shaping policy. “The Power of Public Comment” will explore how science and research can be used to inform and strengthen public participation in policymaking.

The workshop will feature Ryan Kelly, PhD, JD, professor and associate director at SMEA—along with Lauren Kuehne, MS. Together, they will guide participants through how researchers and community members can use their expertise to write effective public comments that help inform decision-makers and influence policy outcomes.

The event will take place on October 15 from 5–7 PM PT at the University of Washington School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in Room 203.

This workshop offers an opportunity for students, researchers, and community members to learn how to translate scientific knowledge into meaningful civic engagement and ensure their voices are part of the policy process.
