Husky Giving Day: Small Unit, Large Presence

When the UW launched Husky Giving Day, a 24-hour period for Huskies everywhere to reconnect with the institution, SMEA agreed to participate primarily as a chance to touch base with recent alumni. With support from the College of the Environment’s Advancement team, SMEA Director Nives Dolšak penned an email to almost 600 recent MMA alumni.

The outreach featured an invitation to participate in Husky Giving Day, and an opportunity to reconnect with SMEA by offering to mentor or meet with prospective and current students, work with faculty as a guest presenter, offer presentations, or join in on SMEA-hosted events.

According to Andrew Storms, SMEA’s fundraising liaison and the Associate Director of Advancement for the College of the Environment, SMEA “raised the most money in donations of any Environment department or school via the Husky Giving Day site” and tied for 2nd place in the sheer number of participants across all units within the College.

A date for Husky Giving Day 2022 has not yet been announced, but those wanting to participate are encouraged to consider being an ambassador, who helps to share the opportunity via social media, word of mouth, or otherwise encourage their peers to consider making a contribution to support the students and innovative work happening in SMEA.
