The master’s thesis has been the culminating academic project for nearly all MMA students at SMEA since the beginning of the program. Beginning with the entering class of Autumn 2015, students will have two options for completing their culminating academic project: an academic thesis or a capstone project. Students will self-select into the Thesis track or the Professional track when they apply.

For those students completing a master’s thesis, much of the first year will be spent defining their thesis topic, determining their committee and advisor, and perhaps beginning their research. The second year is spent conducting more research and writing the thesis. At the end of the second year, students present their thesis to their committees and the school at large.

Capstone students: once guidelines for capstone projects are finalized, more information will be posted to the SMEA web site.

Thesis students: please click on the appropriate documents below to learn more about completing your master’s thesis at SMEA.
